The Applied Physics Study Tour 2022 is organised by a committee of eight motivated physics students. We are a part of the Association for Applied Physics (VvTP), which is the study association for Applied Physics students at Delft University of Technology. One of the goals of the VvTP is to help the students broaden their culture. Another main focus of the Study Tour is to help students with their future career choices. The annual Study Tour is a great opportunity to reach this goal.
The committee members this year are: Koen Folkers, Maaike Smit, Tessa van Duin, Lars van Tol, Sweder Blanken, Mats Steerneman & Job Sanders.
From the 17th to the 31st of July, we will be travelling southwest to Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary. On the trip we will experience numerous cultural and natural events, but also visit local companies and academic institutions. Our first stop is Slovenia. This small country borders the Alps on one side and the Mediterranean on another, and therefore it offers many appealing nature reserves to visit. The capital Ljulbjana is a youthful city with impressive architecture and it gives a good insight into Central-European culture. The next destination is Croatia, a beautiful country by the Adriatic sea with a rich history. Its capital Zagreb forms the heart of contemporary Croatia´s culture, sports and academics. Our study tour comes to an end at the Hungarian capital Budapest. This city has many well-known sights and landmarks in classical architecture, like the Budapest University of Technology. The capitals pre-war central area is even classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The exact program is not yet known, but will be shared on the site once it is finished. This will also be communicated to participants.
Every year the Study Tour-committee askes a few prominent people within our field of study to review and possibly give advice about the planning of the trip. We are very proud that these people have expressed their support. Our committee members are kept informed about the progress of the Study Tour and receive a report of our trip after the tour.
The Study Tour 2022 Committee of Recommendation consists of the following people:
Rector Magnificus and President TU Delft
Vice President Education and Vice Rector Magnificus of Delft University of Technology
Director of Education, Faculty of Applied Sciences of TU Delft
Dean Applied Sciences of TU Delft
Our Study Tour focuses on visiting several companies, both prior to and during the tour. The tour group is formed by means of a selection of Applied Physics students. The group will consist of 30 highly motivated students, accompanied by professors from the TU Delft. The students participating in the tour are not only selected on academic but also on social skills. These students are eventually looking for possibilities for a job, traineeship, internship or graduation project. By collaborating with us, you will increase the awareness of your company to these students.
We are very interested in companies that would like to collaborate with us . In the preliminary program the participating students attend a series of company lectures and take part in case studies during several afternoons. During theses case studies students work together to solve a problem which is prepared by a company. This gives them more insight in future employment as physicists and gives you as a company exposure among talented physics students.
In addition to study cases and lectures, there are limitless options for collaboration and we would be happy to explore these possibilities with interested companies. If you are interested, you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will reply shortly and discuss the options of collaboration together.
Due to limited capacity and collaboration agreements, the students that participate in the 2022 Study Tour to Budapest, Zagreb and Ljubjana are selected based on resume (CV) and motivation. An application can be placed by submitting the application form before the 6th of February. Below are the requirements for application, as well as some other useful information about the study tour. The participant contribution of this year will be around €570 euro.
The letter of motivation can be written in either Dutch or English. The maximum length is 450 words. You can use the following questions as a guideline, but it is not required to answer them in your letter:
Feel free to add some remarks of your own!*If you don't have 45 ECTS and you have ECTS that are not yet officially granted please contact us and we will find a solution.
For quite a few years the VvTP is organizing study tours. The current committee is in contact with the people who organized the recent ones.
